About Darlene Murphy
I’d made it! The Boston Globe said so
Staring at my name in the Boston Globe Magazine’s “Most Powerful Women” edition. I’ve really made it, I thought to myself. It was 2013. My business was a success.
I’d done all the things.
For years, I’d done all the right things. I’d gotten the degrees. CPA. CFP® The work. The sacrifice. Built a business. Each rung I climbed, got me closer to my goal of wealth and success and a perfect life. It was in the Globe so it must be true. I’m here. I’m one of the most powerful women in Boston.
The truth was, I’d never felt more powerless.
I put the paper down and returned to what I’d been doing: dumping powdered food into a blender. For my son. To pump into him via a tube in his belly. Just 11, he was in the grips of a mysterious illness that affected his brain. He couldn’t speak, play, or talk. He didn’t eat or drink for an entire year. And no one knew why.
The more powerful I became, the less I was able to help my own kid. Money, success – none of it mattered.
That morning, I cried.
There was nothing I could do. Nothing.
But then, I reminded myself who I was: Use what you’ve got, I said to myself.
Use your brain.
I couldn’t stop what was happening in my boy’s brain. But I began to work on controlling mine. I could continue my self-pity and self medicating. Or I could take control.
I had to take charge of my brain, so I could help his.
That is how I truly became one of the most powerful women you’ll ever meet. I learned how to tame my brain.
Listen to me.
Your health can be taken away from you tomorrow.
Your business can fail.
Your house can burn to the ground and your spouse can leave you.
That’s why you need to train your brain.
If you know how to manage your brain, you will find you can create happiness and the results you want, no matter what.
There's one rule.
If you have a brain, you can train it how to think.
Change your thinking and you can change everything.
BUT there’s an important catch.
It’s not easy doing it on your own. We are not always able to observe our own thinking very clearly.
It doesn’t work, because it’s too big of a jump. Your brain literally can’t figure out how to do that.
I can teach you how.
I help you reach your goals in your life and in your work.
I can teach you how to decide how to feel and get out of your own way. How to get unstuck.
Life deals us some serious crap. Or annoying @#$%.. We all have our stuff. But you can find happiness, peace and success in your life. No matter what.
I know, because that’s what I did.
I got myself through a lengthy and potentially devastating circumstance.
Without therapy. Without drugs.
And now I teach others how to do the same.
I can teach you how to retrain your brain and be okay no matter what.
